Nintendo DS Lite Officially Launched in US

Today marked the official launch of the much anticipated DS Lite console from Nintendo

Although the Nintendo DS Lite has been available in select retail stores in the United States for over a week, most gamers patiently waited until Saturday, June 11. The new, lighter version of the DS console had hundreds of Nintendo diehards waiting in line at the Nintendo World store in New York City's Rockefeller Center. According to Nintendo, the company has sold almost 17 million DS consoles around the world. By the looks of the early success of the Nintendo DS Lite, Nintendo has another winner on its hands. The staff over at Engadget have posted pictures and commentary from the DS Lite launch in New York City. Engadget reports:

Wouldn't you know it, last night instead of going out and getting our social life on, Paul and I cruised over to Rockefeller Center to the Nintendo World Store for the official DS Lite launch event (it being the eve of June 11th and all). We heard people were lining up over 13 hours in advance to get their shiny white DS Lite -- though the fact that the first 100 buyers got a free copy of Brain Age and a carrying case surely wasn't discouraging a crowd.

The Nintendo DS Lite is available for a MSRP of $129.99.
